AER+ Training

AER+ Training delivers first aid training for workplaces from a base at the Knowledge Gateway in Colchester. Its courses cover Emergency First Aid at Work and First Aid at Work, along with CPR, AED instruction, basic life support and paediatric first aid, and it runs refresher and renewal sessions for people whose existing qualification is coming to the end of its life.

Training is delivered as practical classroom teaching and assessment rather than a slideshow. Candidates who complete a course successfully receive a certificate, issued digitally. Two formats are available: fully in person, or a blended arrangement that is part online and part in person, which suits employers trying to keep staff on site for as much of the working day as possible.

The detail that makes the biggest practical difference is equipment. AER+ Training brings its own to the venue, including manikins, AEDs and presentation kit, so a business booking a course does not need to source training equipment or worry about whether its meeting room is adequately kitted out. Courses are delivered on site at the client's premises. Group bookings are catered for, and the company answers questions on discounts for them directly.

Alongside Colchester, the company works with businesses and other groups across Ipswich, Suffolk and North Essex, covering childcare settings as well as workplaces.

There is a second side to the organisation that explains something about how it operates. Profits are channelled directly into building new lifesaving clubs across Suffolk and into supporting existing activities throughout the wider East Region. Through volunteer teams, those clubs deliver RLSS UK programmes to children aged eight and over in both pool and open water settings, teaching first aid, CPR and aquatic rescue, and giving young people the chance to compete in lifesaving sport. Funding new club startups, sustaining beach and pool initiatives and expanding regional lifesaving coverage are the three aims the company sets out for that work.

The practical upshot for an employer is that the money spent on a statutory first aid course does not simply disappear into a training provider's margin. It funds the same skills being taught to children in the region, which is an unusual thing for a commercial training business to be able to say and a reasonable reason to prefer it over a national provider.
