Phil Hanson

Trumpet Player

I have been a musician for over 40 years and a free-improviser since 2011. My primary instrument is Trumpet, albeit if you listen to any of my tunes on Spotify, all the instruments and sounds you can can hear were performed by me (except the collabs, obviously!). My main style is Jazz, specifically free-improvised ambient-jazz. My preferred approach is to play through various fx pedals to create more of a soundscape vibe, rather than playing pure traditional jazz forms. That said, I am a fan of the blues and traditional jazz so both these come out in my music when it feels right. I have a spiritual side to my music which you can read about over on my Spirituality page and I also use music as part of my Coaching practice through Hanson Creative Coaching. As well as my solo work, I am also working with 2 bands:

  • The ElectroJazz Trio is my main band and my passion, this is a local band playing live where I live in South West France. We are very excited to hit the stage and share our music with live audiences around the region
  • Access.Times is an online collaboration I am involved with, which is producing some exciting material on Petite Victory Collective label

My background is in the classical and orchestral world and I spent many years in the 1990s as a playing member of the world famous Brighouse & Rastrick Brass Band. Notable performances from that era include winning the 1997 British National Brass Band Championships at the Royal Albert Hall, and recording several albums, the highlight of which was recorded at Abbey Road Studios.
