My NameDon't Expect Nioh to Come to Xbox Any Time Soon

My Job Title

Team Ninja has recently revealed that it there is a sad possibility of the Nioh games appearing on Xbox anytime soon. The first Nioh title launched back in 2017, and both it and the 2020 subsequent title are praised as some great action RPGs. Taking clear inspiration from the Soulsborne series, Nioh joins fast-paced combat with heaps of interesting Japanese mythology and history, as well as a sign of approval for the real-life historical figure William Adams, who became one of the main Western samurai.

Both Nioh games were generally welcomed Soulslikes, but unfortunately for Xbox proprietors, the titles were just made available on PlayStation and PC. In any case, for those that want a classic Team Ninja experience on the Xbox, Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty might be able to give that. Announced as one of two games Team Ninja is dealing with currently, Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty was revealed at the Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase this past June. Like the Nioh games, Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty has fast combat and is loaded up with interesting mythological creatures and themes.

Dissimilar to the Nioh games, though, Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is set to release on Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S. It will try and be a day one release for Xbox Game Pass when it launches in early 2023. Speaking to Nioh Director Fumihiko Yasuda and Bloodborne Maker Masaaki Yamagiwa, who are both chipping away at Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, VGC asked about the possibility of some other Team Ninja titles coming to Xbox. Nonetheless, it appears to be profoundly impossible that Nioh will come to Xbox, as Yasuda stated that "there's not really too a very remarkable possibility of having Nioh on Xbox platforms."

This doesn't come as too a very remarkable shock, as even while both Yasuda and Yamagiwa praised how Xbox has been doing in Japan lately, it appears to be the current priority is on Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty and Team Ninja's other impending title Ascent of the Ronin. Still, with Xbox showing an increased spotlight on the Japanese gaming market and the Xbox Series S outselling the PS5 in Japan in May, it appears to be that down the line there could be a possibility for either Nioh or even the Ninja Gaiden games to make their way to Microsoft platforms.

Indeed, even with Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty coming to Xbox, this may not indicate that all of Team Ninja's future titles will be available on the platform. Ascent of the Ronin is a Sony selective, for example, showing that perhaps Team Ninja isn't quite ready to depart from its previous pattern of PlayStation exclusivity.
